Brief Position Description


Responsible for managing all aspects of the ready mix plant site including safety, environment, operations, sales, maintenance, inventory management, performance, quality, financial performance, employee relations, plant’s image and community relations.


The Plant Manager is an operations professional who understands the value of planning and working effectively with other functions including:  Sales, Dispatch, Safety, Environment, Finance, and Human Resources. 


Additionally, the plant manager is accountable for the efficient use of resources associated with the assigned concrete plant required to produce the quality and quantity of Ready Mix concrete for the market and for the generation of budgeted profits.


Responsibilities / Activities


Creates a Culture of Safety:

  • Manages implementation and compliance of Argos Safety Program to ensure personnel are working in a safe manner in accordance with policies and procedures. 
  • Actively engages with the workforce to reinforce safe behaviors and to promote positive preventative measures to ensure the health and safety of employees.
  • Communicates expectations and enforces all safety policies in each work environment.
  • Prepares and conducts monthly safety meetings.
  • Ensures compliance with safety and environmental procedures and principles established by the company and government agencies.
  • Investigate accidents and injuries - report submissions and workmen’s compensation



Customer Relations:

  • Encourages a positive working relationship with area personnel to ensure customers' jobs are serviced according to the specifications. 
  • Responsible for the collection of Cash on Delivery (COD) payments. Proper receipt of the payment, and deposit of the cash.
  • Demonstrates high standard of customer service by communicating with customer and/or operation/ quality / sales personnel to address any problems / issues in a timely fashion.



Manages Plant Personnel:

  • Manages plant personnel and Concrete Delivery Professionals (Drivers) to ensure efficient operations of the facility and delivers to customers in accordance with company guidelines, procedures, policies and practices. 
  • Manages phone calls / texts for plant personnel.
  • Performs all discipline action meetings with assigned plant personnel.
  • Monitors, reviews, edits and approves employee payroll.
  • Conducts interviews and hires plant personnel, including CDP’s (drivers).
  • Works closely with plant personal to engage them in the goals of the plant and develop their skills.  Develop and motivate staff by taking time to recognize and celebrate successes regularly.
  • Identify underperformance and establish corrective action plans accordingly.
  • Provides plant personnel with feedback regarding their performance; rewards and disciplines employees (progressive discipline).
  • Manages the process and in the final decision maker in the decision to terminate an employee's employment.
  • Documents and conducts annual performance reviews with his/her direct reports. 
  • Proactively addresses employee issues / behavior.
  • Manages plant workforce by planning, assigning and directing work.


Manages Plant Operations:

  • Communicates and prioritize company initiatives and pursues best practices.
  • Ensure plant inventory is conducted as required.
  • Notifies Facility maintenance needed repairs, and coordinates repairs.
  • Receive/process tickets to ensure payment through corporate office
  • Monitors chemical inventories to ensure volumes are available to meet customer demand
  • Monitor incoming materials


Communicates effectively with other Departments:

  • Communicates with Dispatch Manager any plant, equipment problems or issues.
  • Schedules plant personnel, call‑ins, equipment, raw materials deliveries, etc. to meet customer requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring quality concrete is produced according to customer requests and design specifications in conjunction with quality and sales department.


Manages Compliance with Corporate and Governmental Policies

  • Environment:  Ensures environment policies and practices are a priority in operations management to meet or exceed environmental compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental policies, procedures and principles established by the company and government agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with Employee relations policies, procedures and principles established by the company and government agencies.
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned by higher management.
  • Plant Image:  Ensure an operational image guidelines exist and are enforced.
  • Identify KPI's deficiencies and areas of opportunity based on systematic processes.
  • Prepares timely company reports, timecards/timesheets and starts invoice process.  Documents employee behavior, both positive and negative, and responds proactively in accordance with company policies.


Requisites of the Position




  • Demonstrated focus on Safety; promotes safety programs and process.
  • Ability to apply knowledge and learning capabilities of mechanical functions of various components and equipment, including electrical, pneumatics, compressed air, mixer trucks and water systems.
  • Creative and logical thinker. Ability to make decisions in a timely manner, sometimes with incomplete data and under tight deadlines and pressure.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills and the desire to seek solutions
  • Handle multiple tasks at one time, such as batching, operating materials distribution, reading order tickets and talking on the phone at the same time.
  • Works with customers and drivers in a professional manner and in group situations.

Technical Knowledge:


  • Undergraduate degree or working experience equivalent preferred in construction management, engineering, or business management
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications, specifically Excel, Word
  • Working knowledge of concrete products and production processes




  • 3-5 years progressive experience working in the Ready Mix industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and proven problem solving and analytical abilities
  • NRMCA Level III certification.
  • Possess a general knowledge of construction and A&C products and a solid understanding of the market, competition and business opportunities.
